The World Law Foundation is a non-profit organization based in Madrid dedicated to promoting the rule of law as a guarantor of freedom and peace worldwide. Established in 2019 following the Madrid Declaration, the Foundation serves as the operational and executive arm of the World Jurist Association.
While the World Jurist Association provides the philosophical foundation and moral authority of this movement, the World Law Foundation translates those principles into concrete action by providing the permanent structure, institutional support, and strategic planning needed to advance its mission in an increasingly complex global environment.
In close coordination with the World Jurist Association, the Foundation organizes the biennial World Law Congress and oversees the presentation of distinguished recognitions such as the World Peace & Liberty Award and the Ruth Bader Ginsburg Medals of Honor.
As part of its commitment to the challenges of the twenty-first century, the World Law Foundation also leads the Rule of Law Digital Center, a platform for research, dialogue, and innovation in areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and digital rights. Through this combination of institutional legacy and operational capacity, the Foundation helps ensure that the defense of democracy and the rule of law remains a dynamic, sustainable, and forward-looking endeavor for future generations.
Main Goals of the World Law Foundation
Uphold peace through the rule of law
To defend peace and freedom by promoting respect for the Rule of Law as the only legitimate alternative to the use of force, and by supporting legal systems that protect human dignity, justice, and equality before the law in all societies.
Strengthen democracy and public institutions
To contribute to the strengthening of democracy through the support of solid, independent, and transparent institutions, including judicial bodies, public administrations, and constitutional frameworks, so that they may effectively safeguard rights, freedoms, and the proper functioning of the State.
Foster international legal cooperation
To cooperate with legal and political actors worldwide to promote respect for Constitutions, the Rule of Law, and Freedom, including constitutional and supreme courts, general prosecutor offices, bar and other guild associations, universities, governmental offices, regional and international organizations, particularly including the World Jurist Association.
Advance legal education and civic awareness
To encourage the study, dissemination, and public understanding of legal principles and democratic values, through academic, institutional, and civic initiatives that help raise awareness of the essential role of law in the defense of freedom, peace, justice, and human dignity.
