Trustee Toni Fickentscher joins the 30th Annual Meeting of Latin American Constitutional Courts in Brazil

From October 22 to 24, our trustee, Toni Fickentscher, notary candidate in Germany, participated as an international expert in the 30th annual meeting of Latin American constitutional courts and chambers in Brasilia, Brazil. This great and successful meeting was organized by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, under the leadership of Mr. Hartmut Rank, in cooperation with the Supremo Tribunal Federal of Brazil.

The official opening was led by Mr. Edson Fachin, President of the STF of Brazil, Mr. Norbert Lammert, former President of the German Bundestag and worldwide Chairman of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, Mrs. Bettina Cadenbach, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Brazil and Mr. Alexandre De Moraes, Vice-President of the STF of Brazil.

Together with Mr. Egils Levits, former President of the Republic of Latvia, Mr. Fickentscher moderated a workshop on the topic: “The relationship between the principles of democracy and the rule of law and the role of constitutional courts,” with a keynote speech by Mrs. Nancy Hernandez, President of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. The event also addressed current issues such as the tension between constitutional law and private law, discrimination, and climate protection.
